Fed: Low wage growth signals softer economy, more rate cuts

CANBERRA, Feb 9 AAP - Wage growth fell in the last few months of 2000, adding more
weight to the view that the Australian economy is slowing and further cuts to interest
rates are expected.

New figures out today showed the average worker's wage rose just $2.30 per week to
$800.60 in the three months to November last year.

That was less than half the $5.60 per week rise market economists were expecting.

The sluggish news on wages growth follows yesterday's plunge in full-time jobs …
