OPENING OF 'SHOCK' CAMP POSTPONED.(Local)

State corrections officials Tuesday delayed the opening of a "shock incarceration" camp in rural Schoharie County, but denied the action was related to an inmate uprising last week at a similar facility.

Corrections Commissioner Thomas Coughlin had originally announced plans to open Camp Summit by the end of September, but that was before nine inmates at Camp Monterey in Schuyler County rioted and injured several guards.

James Flateau, a Corrections Department spokesman, said it may be weeks or even months before the institution is ready to accept its charges.
